        !            80: increases through {alpha, beta, release}. New features are introduced during
        !            81: the `alpha' phase, tested during `beta', and declared stable when `release'
        !            82: is reached. The MAJOR version number (currently 2) won't change for a while.
        !            83: The MINOR version number (1) increases by 2 when a new status cycle starts (as
        !            84: soon as a `release' version is out) [odd numbers are reserved for `released'
